Christmas Green Hex Code
and why you should love it this Christmas.
If you’ve come to this blog then I know you are someone who is interested, maybe even obsessed, about Christmas the colours we love so much in this season. Hello! And although I’ve already written this blog on the history of green in relation to Christmas, I wanted to explore more about the actual colour itself. Similarly to the Red Hex blog.
Looking back at the story of the Christmas tree, we are told that the modern Christmas tree tradition started in 16th century Renaissance Germany, when wooden pyramids would be constructed and decorated with evergreen branches then hung from the ceiling of homes.
It is widely believed that the custom of adding candles to light the tree was started by the Protestant reformer Martin Luther who wanted to replicate the effect of seeing stars through evergreen branches on a snowy winter walk.
In a previous blog, published in 2021, A Countdown to Christmas in colour, I stated “Green is the perfect backdrop for all things Christmas; it’s never changing stability, and that feeling of ever green is a statement of hope and a sign of a new year approaching.”
We are surrounded by green at Christmas, and yet it seems the lesser of the colours we think about. Red and Gold are the most popular colours to decorate with at Christmas, and even crazy rainbows, pinks and blues are taking over our Christmas Markets and Garden Centres in exchange for a more traditional approach. Personally I love green at this festive time of the year.
Exploring different shades and their meanings
Not all greens are the same! Christmas green doesn’t come in a single shade, and each variation can evoke a different feeling or vibe. Whether you want to create a cozy, forest-like retreat or an elegant, luxurious atmosphere, choosing the right shade of green can make all the difference. Here are some popular green shades with their corresponding HEX codes:
- Evergreen (#05472A): A deep, forest green reminiscent of fir trees. Perfect for a traditional Christmas atmosphere.
- Emerald (#50C878): Bright and jewel-toned, emerald green exudes sophistication and pairs wonderfully with gold accents.
- Olive Green (#556B2F): A warmer green with earthy undertones, ideal for rustic Christmas themes.
- Pine Green (#01796F): Dark and muted, pine green gives a woodland feel, especially fitting for wreaths and garlands.
- Mint Green (#98FF98): Light and refreshing, mint green adds a modern touch to Christmas decorations when mixed with metallics or neutrals.
According to Christmas Central, experimenting with various shades of green can open up creative possibilities. “Don’t limit yourself to a single hue,” says designer Anna Reeds. “You can layer different greens to add dimension or mix green with other Christmas colors like gold, silver, or blue.”

Green Christmas
Interior designer and blogger, Emily Henderson, shares, “Green feels grounding. It brings the outdoors inside, which can be comforting, especially in the colder months when we’re spending so much time indoors.” This sentiment is echoed by Apartment Therapy, which highlights how green decorations can freshen up small spaces and provide a sense of connection to nature.
When thinking about designing for Christmas, green often gets pushed to the back of the mind, set as a backdrop to enhance others colours, and although I feel sad that green is there as a second thought, perhaps it actually gives it great purpose.
Color-Name.com states “Christmas Green comes alive through a spectrum of shades, tints, and tones, each offering a variation of this regal color. Explore the subtle differences and discover how each variant enhances the beauty and versatility of Christmas Green.”
